How to do Ankle Alphabet

  1. Sit toward front of chair
  2. Lift right foot slightly off floor
  3. Point toes gently
  4. Hold chair for balance
  5. Using big toe as a "pen", trace letter A in the air
  6. Continue through alphabet (or A-M for shorter version)
  7. Keep movements controlled and deliberate
  8. Lower right foot when complete
  9. Repeat with left foot
  10. Focus on ankle movement, not whole leg

Breathing

  • Breathe naturally throughout
  • Stay relaxed
  • Take breaks between letters if needed

Hold: 3-5 minutes total (both feet).

Challenging the ankle flexibility by attempting to "write" the alphabet with the big toe

Modifications

Make it easier

  • Write only A-M (half alphabet)
  • Make smaller letters
  • Rest foot on floor periodically
  • Use only numbers 0-9 instead

Make it more challenging

  • Write full alphabet A-Z
  • Make larger letters
  • Write in cursive

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Moving entire leg instead of ankle
  • Letters too small to be effective
  • Rushing through alphabet
  • Losing balance without support
