About
About Seated Yoga
Seated Yoga exists for a simple reason: everyone deserves the chance to move, feel steady, and care for their body — whatever their age or ability. We built a gentle, therapeutic chair yoga program so that a stiff back, an uncertain sense of balance, or difficulty getting to the floor never has to stand in the way of a daily practice.
Our mission
Our mission is to make safe, accessible movement available to every older adult. Too often, exercise programs are built for the young and the already-fit, leaving seniors and people with limited mobility to adapt as best they can. Seated Yoga turns that around. The whole program is designed from the chair up — gentle by default, adaptable for every body, and welcoming to complete beginners who have not exercised in years.
We believe small, consistent movement is powerful. Just ten gentle minutes a day, done safely and repeated over time, can help people feel more capable, more independent, and more at ease in their own bodies.
A safety-first design philosophy
What sets Seated Yoga apart is that safety is not an afterthought — it is the foundation. Every movement in the program follows a set of therapeutic principles chosen specifically for older bodies and for the conditions many older adults live with. Forward bends use a flat-back hinge to protect the spine. The head always stays above the heart. Twists are minimal and controlled. The chair is never out of reach. You can read about these in depth on our safety protocols page.
Because these safeguards are built into the design of every single session — not added on for certain poses — you can practise with confidence rather than worry.
Meet GG, your gentle guide
Every session is led by GG, the warm and patient guide at the heart of Seated Yoga. GG is there to demonstrate each movement clearly, offer easier and harder options, and set an unhurried pace that never asks you to keep up or compete. The idea behind GG is companionship: a friendly, encouraging presence who makes the practice feel supportive and calm, day after day.
How the program was built
Seated Yoga was created to be evidence-informed and thoughtful. Its structure — a progressive 90-day journey through six phases, each session shaped as a warm-up, main work and cool-down — reflects well-established ideas about building strength, mobility and balance gradually and safely. Its safety protocols were chosen with the needs of senior populations in mind, including common concerns such as osteoporosis, glaucoma, arthritis and reduced balance.
We are careful not to overstate what any exercise program can do. Seated Yoga is a supportive part of a healthy, active lifestyle — not a treatment or a cure. Individual results vary, and gentle movement is only one piece of good health.
Please note: Seated Yoga is educational and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Everyone's health is different. Please consult your own healthcare provider before beginning this or any exercise program, particularly if you have a medical condition or any concerns about movement.
